Fire

Tickle warmth of dancing flame,
Inconstant yet cozy remains
From roaring inferno almost dangerous.

Light and heat,
Basic essential of comfort.

Quiet mummering retirement
From snap, pop, bang rhythm
Over hungry hum growl.
Devouring wood like candy
Licking it deliciously over and over
As long as some small piece is left to chew.

Slowing to savor the last bits,
Knowing oblivion rides close
Ready to swoop in when sensual pleasure is done.
Trying to hold off the end as long as possible
Shifting coals, sliding down, settling.

Low crinkling chimes of happiness
Sound the heat's wave through wood
Sighing in the thick dark air.

Pulled up high into the black tunnel
Smoke spirit telescoping to the stars
To join the ever crackling light
Which feeds on itself.

No longer devouring and destroying to survive
Just glowing brilliantly
In a self-centered dance through the heavens.
