Thunderstorm

Shatter splash,
Fork of rainbow brilliance
Races past.
Long gone, I'm still trying
To count the colors.

Accusations slip through cracks
As the landslide begins.
You knock on my door,
But I hide in lies.

"Go away,"
I yell,
"Nobody's home."
The house of my heart is empty.

I've changed, I really have,
Got better, over it.

A new hello
Seeps panic.
Flood water rising
Into my empty home.

"Make it stop!"

I long again for green -
Eyes shining like emeralds in the ash.
Cottony words the tourniquet for fear
Keeping my sanctuary safe and dry.

It ceaselessly falls to words
                phone calls
                                promises
                                                and expectations.
I still need to learn,
I can't expect the unknown.
