| Breakthrough She once watched people through a window glass In her dark little room. Quite safe behind the glass, she watched them pass, A glimmering dumb show to lift the gloom. But silent pictures weren't enough for her, She wanted so to play Instead of sitting locked up and demure, To live the social drama of the day. So with a mighty burst of strength, she threw Her body through the glass. Blood fell, but she felt nothing, for she knew Quick pain would end her solitude at last. Now free, but lost among a peopled sea As sharp pain comes in floods, She reaches back to where she used to be, But safety's gone, there's only shards and blood.© 1997 wendi loomis "Reflection in Fragments" |
