I finally saw Beautiful Mind last night (watch out, it's a rather graphic intensive site, very slow loading on a dial-up connection). It's an amazing movie about the Nobel Laureate John Nash. A movie worth seeing early with a friend so you have plenty of time to talk about it afterwards. My only regret was seeing the late show and being too tired to process everything it brought up. Oddly, i felt like i missed some geeky details. For instance, it was very cool the way they showed us how he extrapolated patterns from the every day, but i felt like they left us out on the game of "Go." Perhaps it was too hard to show an audience unfamiliar with the game the strategy of it, but i wanted to see how a mind like his looked at the board and where the flaw occured. I could tell simply by the section of the board that was shown that he was losing, but i couldn't tell you why he thought he could win with those moves. Not exactly a plot moving point, but it was a puzzle that i wanted to look at longer.

Also, the movie brought up this lurking desire to do something brilliant. To somehow contribute in an amazing way to the world around me. But, that kind of brilliance leads you down a slipperly slope as you push the edges of what is accepted as "reality." In order to define new theories, you have to throw out the ones on which society has built itself.~w

I was in such a hurry to get to work this morning, i almost forgot to blog. I got an interesting little link delivered to me this morning from a friend that has something to do with The Little Prince and turtles. (the 2nd link is the one he sent...)

Other than that...i am definitely traveling next week. I'll leave on Sunday morning and be back Thursday so that i'm ready to greet my dad and step-mom when they arrive on Friday. I've decided that since i'm strapped into the roller coaster, i'd best enjoy the ride. It looks to be a very busy summer.~w

I had the pleasure of hearing Roger Jankhe OMD speak last night about the history of Qi and a little of the "why" practices like Qigong and Tai Chi work even though western science can't exactly express "how." In fact, it was only in 1997 that the NIH (National Institute of Health) issued a consensus statement on acupuncture calling it "effective" for certain conditions and lower risk than conventional treatments for the same conditions. But they still haven't found a way to quantify what Chinese medicine has known to be effective for 2,500 years. Acupunture is based on the flow of Qi in the body and western biomedical scientists are just starting to be able to understand how the body produces energy, cells give off light, and a magnetic field radiates from each person. The Qi of China is the same thing referred to as Ki by the Japanese. So there is a bit of method to my madness in studying both Qigong and Reiki. It's basically an approach to the same thing from two different cultures.

My favorite part though was that he started and ended the talk by playing the flute and when questioned gave me a beautiful explanation of why the flute and Qigong are related (two things i've been practicing every morning without knowing why for several months now). I'm saving that little tidbit for myself at the moment though.~w

I found out yesterday that i am probably going to have to drive to Indiana this weekend. Weee! Jest what i want to do (said with a twinge of sarcasm). Things could change though, they've been known to do that. We have an actor right now who's trying to perform without a voice. Either she needs her voice to come back from where it was lost, or someone needs to be her voice. I would be that someone... We'll see what happens. I have a feeling things will work out.~w

Who knew that finding a faerie costume could be so much trouble? I spent 90min of my "lunch" break yesterday getting more confused and frustrated about what i was suppose to look like as i was led through a pile of clothes at the costume shop. I guess they're going to build me something, but it won't be ready in time for the promo thing on Saturday they were hounding me about. When she suggested i look through the other period clothes for just something renaissance-like to wear i fled terrified of being caught there the rest of the afternoon and unable to finish the work i get paid to do.

It's spring and my life seems to have filled up with more than i have time to do again.~w

Yesterday was a busy day. The Faerie rehearsal went well to get things started. I followed that with a few chores and phone calls to secure things like wings. Ran some errands and got myself to the Baha'i Center for the Ridvan program. Then i hurried home to vacuum, dust, and balance my checkbook in a hurry. And why in a hurry? Because last, but not least, i found myself attending the Widespread Panic concert last night. I have to admit, i'd heard of the band, but never the music and had no idea what i was walking into. Once i got past the sheer mass of people in various states of intoxication maurading the streets looking for the illusive stray ticket i had a better idea though. I'd seen what Seattle Center looked like when the Grateful Dead came to town and this looked remarkably similar. Inside it quickly became obvious that despite the tangled knot of audience that appeared to be a claustraphobe's nightmare it was better to wind into the crowd rather than hang around the edges. For one thing, you could hear the band and for another you avoided being dowsed in beer by those who found it more important to camp by the refreshment stand than see the band. Once inside the mass of moving bodies, there was suddenly plenty of dance room and the floor was much less sticky. At that point i was finally able to enjoy what all the craziness was about. Weee! Musician's who love their instruments and love to play and know each other well enough to play just about anything and make it sound good! I'm really glad i went, but next time i see them i'd rather be outside. Festivals with huge crowds i can handle, but I just don't think i'm cut out for the arena concert scene.~w

I'm late for my first rehearsal as Queen of the Fairies for the Asheville Renn Faire. I guess i'll have to write later....~w
