Dan Petrella began playing the banjo as a teenager and has now been composing music and entertaining audiences around the world for 45 years. An accomplished woodworker, he decided 20 years ago to combine his love of music with his woodcrafting skills and started building banjos. You can see Dan's banjos at www.DanPetrella.com.
Dan has performed professionally throughout the Midwest, with special appearances around the world including China and the former Soviet Union.
He has appeared with such well-known bands as Chet Bogan's Wolverine Jass Band, Bob Milne's Sweet Violets, the Dixie Derby Band and the Dixie Rhythm Aces. A well regarded band member as well as soloist, he also encourages and instructs young performers interested in keeping the American tradition of Dixieland music alive in popular culture.
Joanne Domka from Detroit, Michigan was "just passing through" - when she decided: "The beauty of the North Carolina mountains and pleasant climate are so wonderful that I can't imagine living anywhere else!"
Joanne as a musician plays guitar and trumpet in bands featuring early jazz and swing. She is a regular on the Asheville/Hendersonville music scene and plays in several bands including The 42nd Street Jazz Band, Dixie Rhythm Aces, and www.JazmanianDevils.com.
With a BFA in art/photography, graduate education in Archival Administration, design and digital imaging, Joanne has worked as freelance photographer in the metro Detroit area covering assignments for magazines and newspapers, and creating hand-colored photo illustrations for publications.
Joanne's hand-colored black and white photographic artwork of classic automobiles and vintage signage has been featured in top magazines such as Popular Photography, Peterson's Photographic, Photo Techniques, and Automobile Magazine. Exhibited nationally, including the prestigious Concours d'Elegance classic automotive show held annually in Detroit and acquired for private and corporate art collections. Wendi Loomis received a Bachelor of Arts in Acting, Playwriting, & Musical Theatre from Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA. Since 1997 she has been using her
peformance and writing skills as a performance educator for Poetry Alive! based out of Asheville, NC. Her work with Poetry Alive! includes conducting peformances, workshops and residencies as well as in-services for teachers at all levels. She has also taught Music and Drama at the Middle and High School levels in South Carolina and worked with the Greenville Metropolitan Arts Council's SmartArts Arts Integration program since 2004.
