look out world...

Well, the first live performance of Cantankerous was received very well. We've been asked to play again for February and are building a bigger set list so we can give the audience a different show. The next show promises to have some original tunes as well as remakes of some old standards. A song that had been sitting in my notebooks just had life breathed into it last night and came out better than expected. Keep an eye out for new rehearsal recordings as we start to nail down the new tunes. ~w

new recordings!

Check out the side bar to listen to a bit of what was recorded at the last rehearsal for Cantankerous. We'll be playing Sunday January 28th at the Trade Street Coffee house in Tryon. Come see us! ~w

first gig of the new year

If you check out the upcoming performances page you'll notice a new addition. I'll be appearing, for the first time ever playing clarinet and singing live with a band newly dubbed "Cantakerous with Mary Jane" (Or at least that's the working title for now. I guess that makes me "Mary Jane" since I'm the girl and will be wearing the shoes). I will upload some demo songs as soon as I remember where I put the cable that will allow me to connect the tape player to the computer. For now you can look at the flyer here.~w

music moon

Clouds race overhead
lighted by the moon
brilliant eye
surveying the scene
with serene calm

Night plays shadows
lit only by reflection
we see each other
inside out

Outside we blend into concrete
motionless specs
marveled at by the stars above

New Year

I rang in 2007 with a fresh batch of poems lodged in my head from Poetry Alive! rehearsals and a relatively clean house (cleaner than it ever was in 2006 that is). I spent the evening dancing to live music and listening to music with friends. Today I started a new contract job to fill in the gaps between teaching and performing. On the "Upcoming Performances" page you'll notice a new line up of tour dates for Poetry Alive! After the lull of the holidays I'm excited to be back in action.

Here's my "big" list of resolutions for the New Year:

1. Keep busy with projects that feed both my pocketbook and my soul, that also help my community.

2. Write and direct (or find someone to direct so I can perform) at least one production that I am proud to share with the world.

3. Improve my house and yard to a level that I can either sell it or entice someone to live here with me and help pay the bills.

4. Make more friends and improve relationships with people I already know.

5. Take better care of myself and manage my varying energy levels around other people more effectively.

So there you have it...2007 looks to be a busy and wonderful year. ~w
