It's a quiet week of home work I believe. Last night there was a quick jaunt up to Asheville where Reese played solo for a couple of hours and then was joined by Joanne Domka on the trumpet for a bonus hour. It sounds as if he may have another solo spot this week, thanks to that. Look for him during happy hour on Friday at Thibodaux Jones after the BlueBrass Project Master Seminar. I'll probably be hiding most of the week myself, practicing clarinet and such before I dive into the Arts Integration Institute next week in preparation for working with the Tanglewood Project this fall.~w

Okay, so i didn't actually play on Wednesday with Sweet Mama T, but I was there in spirit. There was some confusion (mostly on my part) and since I'd never rehearsed the third set with them it made sense that I sit that one out. As it turned out, we had a visit that evening from my friend Wammo and the lovely Tracy who happily slept on the living room floor and fed us. I must say that as far as house guests go they were entertaining, low maintenance, and more than helpful around the house. Today they are headed home to Pittsburg and hopefully got out of North Carolina before the nasty thunderstorms hit.
This week's musical line-up is a bit light on the performance end. But there is a worthy show Thursday at Thibodaux's. Russ Wilson's Nouveau-Passe Orchestra will be swinging it with Reese Gray on the piano. If you're lucky (and weather permits) you might catch me playing clarinet and singing on the streets of Asheville this week. Try looking for me and anyone I can roust up to join me at the Flat Iron. ~w

My roommate Reese asked me to help drum up an audience for his first solo gig in Asheville.
When: Tomorrow night, Monday July 12, 2004 7-9pm
Where: Thibodaux Jones Creole Kitchen & Meantime Lounge
Why: I'll be there and would love to have folks to visit with while I hang out and enjoy Reese's repetoire of ragtime and jazz tunes.
So, come on by for a bite of tasty cajun/creole food or a drink or just to listen.
For directions and menu info you can check out the website: Thibodaux Jones
Also this week, on Wednesday July 14, 2004 I will be playing clarinet with Sweet Mama T and her Red Hot Sugar Babies at Tressa's. I won't be able to do much hanging out, but if you're up for listening to some ol' 20's tunes with vocals and my attempt at jazz clarinet I'd love to have the support.
Directions and such can be found at their website (even if the calendar is out of date): Tressa's
If you're a die-hard, you can also catch the Firecracker Jazz Band (or a close facsimile of the group) on Thursday night July 15, 2004 at Thibodaux Jones with Reese on piano again.
Hope to see you this week!
