Fall in Love with Local Music this Weekend

It’s been said that music soothes the soul. So, whether you happen to be in love with someone or just looking for a way to love yourself this weekend there are plenty of opportunities to let the local music work its magic on your heart.

Looking for someplace to take your sweetheart tonight? The Purple Onion offers a fabulous choice for dinner with the sweet music of the Mark Bumgarner Acoustic Duo at 7:30 p.m. this evening. Or if Valentine’s Day gives you the blues, head on down to Elmo’s to rock your blues away with the talented Johnny Rawls.

Friday night offers a relaxing evening to share your own poetry, music, and comedy in the Gallery Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. Their monthly Listening to Coffee open mic is a great place for the whole family to gather and enjoy a supportive atmosphere while sharing what you can do. Or, catch up with your sweetheart over a relaxing dinner at Purple Onion while listening to the romantic jazz piano of Fred Whiskin.

Saturday night heats up in Saluda with the weekly “Dance to the Beat” at Saluda Mountain Jamboree featuring Common Ground at 8 p.m. Put on your dancing shoes and get out with your sweetheart or just grab a buddy and go meet somebody new. Or, fall in love all over again with the country rock sweetness of Ménage at the Purple Onion at 8 p.m. If you just want a quiet evening, treat yourself to a sweet dessert and coffee at the Gallery Coffeehouse while listening to the lovely tunes of folk duo Lucy Allen & Marshal Goers.

Bring the whole family out to FENCE at 4 p.m. on Sunday to catch the lovely and talented pianist Yi Wen Fei. This amazing young woman began her piano studies at the age of four in China and is honored to share her talents with the local community as she continues her studies at Converse College.

Show your love for the local arts by visiting by the Community Open House at Tryon Fine Arts Center from 3-5 p.m. Sunday to meet the new executive director Chris Farrell and learn about the plans for the next year.

While you are there, pick up tickets for The Glenn Miller Orchestra next Sunday Feb 24 presented by TFAC at the Polk County High School Auditorium or call 828-859-8322 for more information and tickets.
