Take the Weekend to have an Art-Adventure

Today and tomorrow Tryon Fine Arts Center welcomes Theatreworks USA to the Polk County High School presenting Suessical the Musical. This fun romp with the zany characters like Horton the Who and the Grinch of Whoville is appropriate for all ages. Showtimes are 9am and 11am each day to catch this festive frolic with the musical rhymes of the Cat in the Hat and other favorites.

Looking for something more down to earth and soulful? Visit the Purple Onion this evening at 7:30pm for Fayssoux McClean & Brandon Turner making music with words. A perfect chance to woo that sweetheart of yours over dinner before Valentines Day arrives.

Friday night tune up your guitar and warm up your vocal chords to join the Pickin' Parlor at the Gallery Coffeehouse. Feeling shy? You can always just sit down with a hot cup of coffee and dessert and listen as the regular group shares new and old tunes from gospel, folk and other genres as their whims and wits desire.

Looking for a daytime adventure? Why not take time to wander through the local galleries in the area. This will be your last week to catch the colorful acrylics and mixed media work of Bonnie Bardos at Gallery 1 of the Tryon Fine Arts Center. February 8th the Tryon Painters & Sculptors present their next show of watercolorist Larry Mauldin's work at the gallery.

Saturday after getting those errands done, catch a late lunch, or snack before supper with live jazz from Fred Whiskin at The Hare and the Hound in Landrum. From 3-5pm, this is a perfect way to relax into your Saturday night.

If you prefer the nightlife, choose between a cozy evening with songwriter, producer, and musician Don Dixon at The Purple Onion in Saluda, or head over to the Saluda Mountain Jamboree for a lively Mardi Gras Party at 8pm. The Jamboree will be serving up live music from Southern Point with beads, masks, and other special festivity. You are invited to dress for the occasion or "come as you are" to celebrate and dance the night away. For more information or to reserve a table call 828-749-3676.

If you can't get enough of the Mardi Gras spirit, second line your way through Asheville on Fat Tuesday February 5th with their Mardi Gras parade at 5:30pm. The parade will end at Pritchard Park in the heart of downtown with a live performance from fire dancers and the Dixieland jazz of Firecracker Jazz Band.

Don't forget when you're out and about to pick up tickets for Tryon Little Theatre's next production The Odd Couple by Neil Simon. The show runs next weekend Thur Feb 7th -Sun Feb 10th at the TLT Workshop on South Trade. The TLT box office is open 11am – 1pm at the Workshop.
