Hear Everything from Sister Harmonies to Broadway Classics
As the weather finally thaws this weekend, live music events heat up the nights. Tonight you'll find the intricate harmonies of The Ginn Sisters enticing as you dine at the Purple Onion in Saluda. These true to life sisters grew up singing together and now bring the heart and sound of Texas acoustic Americana served up with love and a bit of humor at 7:30pm.
Saturday, there is a lovely variety to suit many tastes. I can't help but "strut my stuff" in the Tryon Little Theatre Broadway Revue at Tryon Fine Arts Center. The evening starts with wine & cheese in the lobby at 7pm and then Chris Tinkler has lined up a notable array of local talent sharing past, present, and future glimpses at what TLT has to offer the community. Local favorites Pam McNeil, Tena Greene, Susie Kocher, Guy Winkler, and The Tap Dames among others will light up the stage with music and comedy. The event serves as a fundraiser for staging larger scale shows at the Tryon Fine Arts Center next season and will include a silent auction. On a different note, there is an amazing community worship event happening down the road in Columbus. For teens and fans of high energy hip hop and R&B, "color yourself blessed" to have the chance to catch former Color Me Badd pop star Kevin Thornton this Saturday at 7pm in the Polk County High School Gym. PCHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Krucifyd Ministries are thrilled to bring Kevin's joyful music and ministry to Polk County .
Looking for some high energy fiddle and mandolin? Venture up to the Purple Onion in Saluda for Wild Blue Yonder at 8pm. This feisty group from Knoxville is sure to knock your socks off with their quick licks and original Americana tunes. Rounded out with guitar and percussion this group will have every toe in the room a tapping.
If you want to groove to some good old southern rock with seasoned musicians, look no further than the Saluda Mountain Jamboree. From 8-11pm you'll "dance to the beat" of Silver Travis with their blend of original and cover tunes that show flexibility from years of playing alongside veterans of the business such as The Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Charlie Daniels.
After all the excitement of Saturday night, Sunday afternoon offers a quiet retreat at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. At 3pm, Tryon Concert Association is pleased to welcome back the Kalichstein-Laredo Robinson Trio. The piano trio last visited Tryon in 2002 and returns celebrating their 30th season together. They began this season with the complete cycle of Beethoven Trios over three concerts in NYC and since their last visit have recorded an Arensky & Tchaikovsky disc that received great acclaim.
